The Intelligence from The Economist - Stone unturned? Trump’s adviser on trial

Today Roger Stone, a colourful associate of President Donald Trump for 40 years, goes on trial facing seven charges; he denies them. Could his testimony worry the Trump camp? In the international race to mass-market driverless cars, China’s 5G network may provide a critical edge. And why you shouldn’t worry too much about eerily apposite computer-generated text.

The Daily Signal - Inside Chicago’s Political Dysfunction

Chicago is known for its deep dish pizza, skyscrapers, and freezing cold winters. Unfortunately, it’s also known for high crime, fiscal woes, and political dysfunction. Other major cities have reformed their political system over time, but not Chicago. The city remains stuck with an outdated political model where the mayor is essentially king, making it harder to address long-term problems. My guest today, Austin Berg, has co-authored a book about this that explains how Chicago can finally break free from its past.

We also cover the following stories:

  • House releases transcripts of impeachment inquiry hearings.
  • Four Trump administration officials defy House subpoenas.
  • Court rules that President Trump's accounting firm must hand over eight years of tax returns.

Opening Arguments - OA329: Gun Buying and Jury Duty in America

Today's show is something we absolutely love to do, which is listener questions! Our listeners pose some truly intelligent, well thought-out, and deep-dive worthy questions. Today's episode features two such deep dives inspired by our listeners. The first is regarding DC v Heller, and whether it applies to gun ownership or gun sales, or both. The second question is a chance for Andrew to talk about jury duty, and what makes a good juror. Classic OA Tuesday deep dives!
