What A Day - All Tuckered Out

In a series of high-profile cable news firings Monday morning, Fox News announced that the network agreed to part ways with top host Tucker Carlson — and just minutes later, news broke that CNN terminated longtime anchor Don Lemon after 17 years with the network. 

President Biden is expected to announce his 2024 bid for re-election as soon as today. Multiple outlets reported that he tapped White House Senior Adviser Julia Chavez Rodriguez as his campaign manager, signaling that he’s already gearing up to make his case for a second term. 

And in headlines: North Dakota’s Republican governor signed legislation banning abortions after six weeks, demonstrators gathered at Montana’s Capitol to protest the censure of Rep. Zooey Zephyr, and more celebrities came out to say they did not sign up for Twitter Blue.

The Daily Signal - INTERVIEW | Rep. Dan Bishop Sounds Off on Hunter Biden Laptop Cover-Up Revelation

Michael Morell, former deputy director of the CIA, testified that Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who at the time was a senior adviser to the Biden campaign, "played a role in the inception" of the Oct. 19, 2020, letter from 51 former intelligence officials suggesting that "the Hunter Biden laptop was part of a Russian disinformation campaign," Fox News reported.

"It was requested by Antony Blinken, who was working for the Biden campaign, and they were too pleased to do it. So, Michael Morell went out and carried on the effort, and 51 intel agents, or former intel policymakers, were in on it," Rep. Dan Bishop, R-N.C., says. "And of course they hedged their language there, but they gave rise into the media coverage, which was, it was 'Russian disinformation.’"

"It took way past the election, and year and a half or whatever, for media outlets ultimately to acknowledge what it was," the North Carolina lawmaker says. 

The October letter was co-signed by more than four dozen former intelligence officials, among them Jim Clapper, former director of national intelligence; Leon Panetta and John Brennan, former directors of the CIA; Rick Ledgett, former deputy director of the National Security Agency; and Morell.

"What happens now? Well, there are a couple other details there that are of considerable interest to the committee that we're still pursuing. I'll keep those under my hat for the moment," Bishop says.

NPR's Book of the Day - How Indian migrant workers escaped human trafficking in Mississippi

Today's episode is a true story that reads like a novel. In 2006, author and labor organizer Saket Soni received a call from an Indian migrant worker. He was one of hundreds of men hired by Signal International to fix hurricane-ravaged oil rigs in Mississippi and asked to pay $20,000 under the impression it would go towards green card expenses. But as Soni explains in his new book, The Great Escape, that was far from the truth. He tells Here & Now's Deepa Fernandes about the harsh conditions workers were forced to live in, and how they eventually marched all the way to D.C. to demand justice.
