President Biden in Israel amid outrage over hospital blast. House Speaker nominee fights on. CBS News Correspondent Steve Kathan has today's World News Roundup.
Attorneys Samson Enzer and Greg Strong say Caroline Ellison’s testimony against Sam Bankman-Fried was damning. They agree one thing could turn it around: SBF’s own testimony. However, that runs the risk of increasing his sentence.
Samson Enzer, partner at Cahill Gordon & Reindel, and Greg Strong, partner at DLX Law, dissect the second week of the criminal trial of Sam Bankman-Fried. At this point, the prosecution’s star witness, former Alameda Research CEO Caroline Ellison, has testified, as well as another prominent insider, co-founder Gary Wang. But both Enzer and Strong believe that it’s already over for the defense, but agree that the only thing that could turn it around is testimony from SBF himself—but that runs the risk of the defendant significantly increasing his sentence.
Find out how they thought the more salacious details of Ellison’s testimony, concerning alleged bribes to Chinese government officials, would affect the jury, and why Enzer believes introducing that testimony may have been risky for the government.

This week, we’re joined by Amjad Iraqi, a senior editor at +972 Magazine and a policy analyst at the think tank Al-Shabaka. Since Hamas’s brutal attack and Israel’s declaration of war, thousands of people in Gaza, the West Bank, and Israel have been killed. More than a million people have been ordered to leave the northern Gaza Strip; more than two million Gazans are being denied food, water, electricity, and fuel. [3:10] Amjad, a Palestinian citizen of Israel based in London, explains what’s different about this moment for both Palestinians and Israeli Jews. [32:30] He also untangles the international context in which Hamas operates, both in relation to its Arab neighbors and global powers like the United States—the only country, he believes, with the power to stop Israel from committing genocide. [47:20] Finally, Amjad highlights the need to reject colonial and statist frameworks in fighting for Palestinian liberation.
In this episode, we ask:
How was Israel able to manufacture a forgetting of occupied Palestinians by Israeli Jews?
How has the politics in Israel shifted following Hamas’s attack?
How should we understand this latest wave of violence, given the violence required to maintain Israel’s “status quo”?
What are the freedom dreams of Palestinian people?
A fatal explosion at a hospital-cum-shelter has led to outrage and the canceling of the very summit that the US president had flown in for. America’s support for Israel is unwavering but could this escalation prompt the involvement of regional neighbours? Modi’s meddling in India’s cricket is bad for the game (10:53). And mourning dead artists (19:19).

Through his career, Jason gained great experience in the gig economy, through his time at Uber and other ventures in Latin America. He saw many shifts run the market through his time, and throughout the pandemic, and he saw that people were looking to maximize the productivity of the workforce they currently had.
