Time To Say Goodbye - AOC, Convention Night 1, and the Future of the Left with Matt Karp

Hello!

We’re joined today by Matt Karp, a columnist for Harper’s, a professor of History at Princeton and one of the most intelligent and incisive writers on the left. We talk about AOC’s big night at the DNC, the somewhat moribund state of the left after Bernie’s big win in the 2020 Nevada primary, and whether the future for the left is bright or gloomy. This was a lively one and lotta good thinking from Matt here so please take a listen!

One note: apologies I think there was some street work being done towards the back end but we tried to clean it up as best as we could. Shouldn’t be too much of a problem.

thanks!

Everything Everywhere Daily - Supercomputers and the Evolution of Computing Power

If you’ve been around long enough, and by that, I only mean a couple of years, you have probably observed the one fundamental truth about computers: they always get faster.

While games and web browning might seem faster, the average person’s computer usage doesn’t necessarily express just how much more powerful computers have become.

In particular, for several decades, supercomputers have been developed which are vastly more powerful than what is one your desk or in your pocket. Unless that is, you make comparisons over time…

Learn more about supercomputers, the evolution of computing power and how your computer stacks up to supercomputers of the past on this episode of Everything Everywhere Daily.

What Could Go Right? - The Two Sides of Gene Editing with Kevin Davies

Where should humans draw the line with gene editing? Is CRISPR the "holy grail" of science, or is editing human DNA ethical at all? Zachary and Emma speak with Kevin Davies, executive editor of The CRISPR Journal and author of "Editing Humanity." They discuss gene editing, specifically CRISPR, and its implications for mankind's future, the successes of gene editing for agriculture and treating sickle cell disease, and Chinese biophysicist He Jiankui's unlawful meddling in the DNA of three embryos, now kids living in China with unknown health effects.
