1A - The Lingering Effects Of Wildfire Smoke

The effects of climate change are being felt more than ever. We've seen the devastation caused by storms and floods.

Most recently, we watched the West Coast go up in flames flames, displacing thousands and destroying homes.

But what about what lingers behind? What stays in the air that we breathe?

Smoke can have a real impact on our health. As more of our forests start to burn due to increased temperatures, more smoke is going to be floating around our country and world.

We discuss the effects of fire smoke in the short and long term.

Reset with Sasha-Ann Simons - ‘Don’t Go To That Part Of Town’: Breaking Chicago’s Segregation Messaging

Chicago is one of the most segregated cities in the country. It’s driven by policy decisions over the decades, but it’s also reinforced by personal networks and perception rather than experience. A new book, titled “Don’t Go: Stories of Segregation and How To Disrupt It,” uses first-person testimonials to explore how racist messaging can perpetuate this dynamic. Reset sits down with co-authors Tonika Johnson and Maria Krysan to hear how this book came to be, and how it could inform disrupting segregation. For a full archive of Reset interviews, head over to wbez.org/reset.

The Intelligence from The Economist - Get your Strait facts: China’s quiet Taiwan push

We investigate China’s under-the-radar push to get other countries to change their official language on Taiwan’s independence. Would it make a difference in a bid to reunify by force? Code Story: Insights from Startup Tech Leaders - S10 E20: Tameem Hourani, RapDev

Tameem Hourani was born in the Middle East, on a small island. He came to the states, Boston specifically, for school in 2006. He planned on 4 years of engineering, which turned into 19 years of life. He became a citizen of the US during COVID, and spent many years of his career at Wayfair, which he throughly enjoyed. But outside of tech, he is a new father and spends a lot of time with his newborn. He loves being in the ocean, scuba diving, kite surfing and along side that, collecting vintage watches.

In the past, Tameem had been burned by consulting firms. He saw a gap in the industry, and when he left his prior role at Wayfair, he wanted to become a trusted, transparent technology partner - the one that he had longed for in his previous roles.

This is the creation story of RapDev.
