Bad Faith - Episode 380 – The Ceasefire Shell Game (w/ Sam Husseini)

Independent journalist and bête noire of White House press flacks Sam Husseini returns to Bad Faith to break down the Biden administration's spin over who is really responsible for stalling a ceasefire deal that would bring an end to the carnage in Gaza. Husseini reacts to Hasbara from Jake Tapper and analyzes how hostages have been cynically weaponized by pro-Israel actors to generate sympathy for Israel's siege (and oust progressive news hosts), all while the families of hostages have clearly said that they are far from Israel's priority. Husseini also discusses a new UN report out Wednesday that confirms that claims of mass rape on October 7th are completely unsubstantiated, but that Israel likely implemented the "Hannibal directive" against its own citizens and enacted gross abuses -- including sexual assaults -- on Palestinian victims.

In her first interview after being fired from The Hill Briahna Joy Gray sits down with the co-hosts of Due Dissidence, Keaton Weiss and Russell Dobular, to discuss the long trajectory of attacks from Rep. Ritchie Torres and others that have led to Briahna's dismissal for pro-Palestine speech. This censorship has been a long time coming, and the attacks have escalated since Briahna attended a "Dissident Dialogue" conference early last month, which was clipped and circulated about a week before her ouster in a failed attempt at getting her canceled. Russell attended that conference, and he gives a firsthand account of his experience in the audience and from subsequent interviews with the staff that put together the event.

The Nation's John Nichols returns to Bad Faith to break down the avalanche of bad press Biden has been getting over the last week, including a viral article by Ian Chotiner in The New Yorker in which Dem strategist Simon Rosenberg tried to rage-quit the interview after being asked basic questions about Biden's bad polling. Nichols, a historian of American politics, walks us though nearly a century-worth of elections to assess what opportunities exist in this moment for the left: A challenge at the convention? A third party candidate? (N.B. -- we recorded prior to the news that Biden's nomination at the convention would be "virtual.")
