Documentarian Dan Cohen reports on what he learned on the ground in Haiti through interviews with politician, former police officer, and gang leader Jimmy "Barbecue" Chérizier. Chérizer has been smeared as a cannibal by Elon Musk and some western media outlets, but is the portrait of him as a revolutionary leader closer to the truth? Dan walks us through the Haitian uprising, the ouster of Ariel Henry, and American efforts to intervene -- again.

Unlike in 2020 & 2016, a prescriptive progressive economic agenda hasn't been thrust into mainstream consideration this election cycle. Rather, any talk of the economy has largely centered around questions of inflation: whether Biden is or isn't making it better, and whether leftists are overstating the cost of living struggles of working people. This week, Professor of Economics at SUNY-Cortland Steve Maher joins Bad Faith to assert a positive economic vision for the left, how to defeat globalization, and whether or not right-populists have gotten anything right in these regards -- if only rhetorically. We also debate the value of left electoralism, whether "fraud squad" is a fair charge, and the limits of labor militancy.

Bad Faith - Episode 353 Promo – UN Rape Report Fact Check (w/ Ali Abunimah)

Subscribe to Bad Faith on Patreon to instantly unlock this episode and our entire premium episode library: http://patreon.com/badfaithpodcast    Electronic Intifada's Ali Abunimah joins Bad Faith to break down the latest in what some are calling the "mass rape hoax" -- a series of articles and reports that claim to prove a mass rape campaign occurred on October 7th based on circumstantial evidence and a few witnesses with significant credibility issues. Ali walks us through last week's report by UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General Pramila Patten, which claims to hold "convincing information" that Hamas raped Israeli hostages. But with no interviews with alleged victims, and no identifying information about alleged witnesses, does the report tell us anything new? And if the most conclusive findings of the report are to cast doubt several rape claims, why was it reported by the New York Times as uncovering new "evidence" -- at least before they walked back their headline? And if Patten admits she did not conduct an "investigation," what does it claim to prove? But first, Ali gives an update on what's been happening this last week in Gaza, including an update on the horrific flour massacre.

Staff writer at Arizona Luminaria & author of The Case for Open Borders John Washington joins Bad Faith to make -- what else? -- the case for open borders. It seems the left and liberals alike have been largely silent on what they affirmatively believe should be done to address the immigration backlog at the border. We are able to say what we don't like about Biden's or the Republicans' policy. But what should actually be done instead? We are often accused of wanting open borders. What if we owned it? Is it possible to both prioritize the interests of American workers and have a humane border policy? Are we falling into the trap of believing a tradeoff is necessary?

Bad Faith - Episode 351 Promo – American Friction (w/ Jason England, Mtume Gant, & Bertrand Cooper)

Subscribe to Bad Faith on Patreon to instantly unlock this episode and our entire premium episode library: http://patreon.com/badfaithpodcast    Succession/The Good Place/Watchmen writer Cord Jefferson's adaptation of Percival Everett's novel Erasure is getting Oscar buzz, but does American Fiction deserve the hype? Writers Jason England and Bertrand Cooper join director/actor/writer Mtume Gant to discuss. Do meaningful departures from the book indicate a disinterest in working class politics that cut to the heart of what Everett was trying to say in his novel? Or are they good cuts in service of the economy of film? Is the basis of satire in the 20-year-old book -- the interest of white audiences in Black "struggle" literature -- still current now that more middle class Black authors have access to publishing houses? Did the movie miss an opportunity to pick a new target -- say, the BLM protest to hype-house grift? Or does it capture a still-relevant critique of Black elites and the stories that make them rich?
