The FBI on Monday morning arrested two New York City residents “in connection with opening and operating an illegal overseas police station," according to a Justice Department press release. 

Lu Jianwang and Chen Jinping were "charged with conspiring to act as agents of the [People’s Republic of China] government, as well as obstructing justice by destroying evidence of their communications with [a Chinese Ministry of Public Security] official,” the Justice Department said.

Michael Cunningham, a research fellow in the Asian Studies Center at The Heritage Foundation, joins today's episode of "The Daily Signal Podcast" to discuss his thoughts on the arrests, China's dismissal of the allegations, and the leaked Pentagon documents relating to Taiwan. Thousands of Americans are expected to gather April 29 in Austin, Texas, for a rally calling on state lawmakers to secure the southern border. 

“I actually expect this to be the biggest border event in the history of the country,” Mark Meckler, president of the Convention of States and a founder of the tea party movement, tells “The Daily Signal Podcast.”

The goal of the rally is “to push the Texas legislature and the Texas governor into action,” Meckler says, since President Joe Biden and his Department of Homeland Security have failed to act to secure the U.S.-Mexico border.

The event, which aims to draw 50,000 attendees, is called “How Many More?” and seeks to bring attention to the humanitarian crisis at the southern border.

Meckler joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to talk about the mission of the April 29 rally and what to know before attending the event.

• The legal battle over the abortion pill is still underway. Earlier today, the Biden administration and a large abortion pill manufacturer formally asked the Supreme Court to pause a lower court’s ruling that restricts the abortion pill.

• The conservative group Consumers’ Research has launched a new texting service that alerts shoppers in grocery stores. The alerts, as Axios reports, tell shoppers which brands are accused of taking political positions that are offensive to the right.

A whistleblower says a transgender clinic at a children’s hospital in St. Louis is lying to parents about gender treatments. Now, Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey has launched an investigation into the clinic to find out what’s really going on inside the four walls of the children’s hospital.

“We’re looking to shut these types of procedures down and protect kids, and if that includes using civil law, criminal law, revocation of licensure, there is no stone that we will leave unturned,” Bailey says. 

Since taking office in January, Bailey has taken steps to hold the far Left and the Biden administration accountable. In addition to the investigation into the gender clinic, Bailey has taken legal action against the Biden administration, arguing it engaged in suppression of free speech in collaboration with large social media companies.  

Bailey has also called for the removal of St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kimberly Gardner and filed a lawsuit against her, arguing she is failing to prosecute criminals. 

Bailey joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to explain how he and his office are working to further American values and to protect freedom in Missouri.

Amber Athey, author of the newly released book "The Snowflakes' Revolt: How Woke Millennials Hijacked American Media," is weighing in on how the "liberal woke takeover" is affecting journalism and journalistic standards. 

"The way that this strain of progressivism approaches journalism is completely divorced from what we traditionally understand as journalistic ethics and standards," said Athey, Washington editor for the Spectator. 

"These individuals believe that the media is just another platform for which they can advance political activism, and they've rewritten the rules of journalism to reflect that," says Athey, who previously covered the White House for The Daily Caller and hosts a weekly radio show, "Unfit to Print," on WCBM-680 in Baltimore. "So, it's no longer about objectively trying to find the facts and get somewhere close to the truth and presenting facts to the reader so they can make their own decisions."

Athey adds: 

It's now about fighting on behalf of the downtrodden, or "speaking truth to power," or making sure that you are not causing offense to marginalized groups.

Athey joins today's episode of "The Daily Signal Podcast" to discuss some examples of this liberal woke takeover of the media that she’s referring to, whether she thinks this liberal takeover was inevitable or could have been prevented, and how conservatives can work to counter the influence of these corporate media outlets.
