However, Reagan’s ‘do a little arithmetic’ point on poverty budgets vs how much help it’s been to the poor community still pencils out.

President Trump shocked the GOP establishment when he went into Detroit in 2016 and asked, “are you better off now?” Eight years later the Black and Latino community support for the GOP has grown to record levels but has the policy the effort to bring free-market, liberty-based solutions grown to match?

We sit down with Dr Ed Kornegay and Ehi Aimiuwu from the Center for Poverty Solutions and the Illinois Policy Center to hear about the success that they have had in Chicago and can that be exported to places like Richmond, Norfolk, Charlottesville or even… DC?

On today’s episode of Problematic Women, we begin with the tragic shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minnesota. We share what is currently known about the incident and how some Democrats have chosen to respond, including attempts to minimize prayer and politicize the tragedy. 

 

We also highlight the data showing how President Trump’s recent crime crackdown in Washington, D.C., has led to real results—lower carjackings, fewer robberies, and even nearly two weeks without a homicide.

 

Speaking of Trump, his marathon three-hour cabinet meeting on Tuesday ran longer than The Godfather. We sat through the entire thing so you don’t have to, and we break down the biggest takeaways, from Trump’s surprising stance on Chinese student visas to his pushback on Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker’s call for “non-violent resistance” to potential National Guard presence in Chicago.

 

And of course, the biggest pop culture story of the week (and possibly the year) is that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are engaged. Travis’ father, Ed, shared a statement on the two’s “shared values, strong work ethic and future family goals,” begging the question: will Taylor and Travis’ new domestic era inspire a marriage and/or baby boom in America?

It's not that George Soros was born in 2008 but he became part of the political zeitgeist that year as we learned about how he helped raise a fortune for the Presidential aspirations of a young Senator from Illinois named Barrack. 

Ever since then the specter of Soros and his money has hung over every discussion about democracy in the United States. Last year he announced that he was stepping back from the day-to-day operations in favor of his son Alex, who he calls far more politically active than he ever was, taking over. The fear in Conservative circles was that a more politically aggressive, more targeted Soros organization at Open society would be harder to even keep up with, never mind defeat.

The Soros organization is the key pole underneath the tent of a fundraising machine called  Arabella Advisors. They are a philanthropic consulting company that oversees a handful of nonprofits, all of which oversee a multitude of left-leaning projects and organizations. When accounting for the seven nonprofits in the Arabella Network, they provided nearly $1 billion in grants in 2023 alone. 

One group that has done an exquisite job all the way to the point of publishing a book on who Arabella Advisors are is the Capital Research Center. Kristen Eastlake, Senior Vice President of the CRC sits down with us at the State Policy Network annual meeting to tell us breaking news that George and more importantly Alex Soros may not have the money they used to have.

“Crime apologist” is not a strong enough term to describe the hysteria and vitriol that’s infected the modern-day Left.

 

For the sake of ideology, left-wing leaders and activists are willing to sacrifice public safety and justice—from sanctuary cities releasing violent offenders to outrage over federal intervention that actually reduced crime in Washington, D.C. He was a person from the middle class, was born without status or advantages or money, and he worked himself up to the leadership position of one of the largest health care concerns in the United States. And Luigi Mangione—a 25- or 26-year-old wealthy, well-educated kid, high status, privileged—decided that he was an enemy of the people because health care was not universal and UnitedHealthcare may have refused coverage to certain people in need. India’s growing population, economic strength, and position as an English-speaking counterweight to China should make it a perfect partner for America.

 

So, why isn’t it?

 

On today’s episode of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words,” Hanson explains how trade disputes, tariffs, and India’s continued purchases of Russian oil have strained ties. Instead of strengthening bonds with America, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is moving closer to both Russia and China.

“It should be a very profitable relationship, especially for India to have all of its citizens free to come to the United States. And millions apparently do and they get billions of dollars in remittances. They run a trade surplus with us. And we have a lot of commonalities as English-speaking democracies. But we're not. And so, why aren't we? One of the greatest problems is Donald Trump slapped a tariff. And he said, ‘India's tariffs are too high.’ And they replied, ‘Well, if you look at services and the other intangibles that I mentioned, maybe it's not that bad. And we're working on it.’ But Trump really did put high tariffs on India.”
