The Daily Signal - Sean Spicer Blasts Jen Psaki’s Farewell Publicity Tour: ‘Unethical and Wrong’

Jen Psaki's last day as White House press secretary will be this Friday, May 13. She's expected to move next to a high-profile role at MSNBC, according to Axios, which reported April 1 "the deal is nearly final" even though no contract has been signed.

"I'm glad that she's found a soft landing," says Sean Spicer, who served as President Donald Trump's first press secretary. "But you can't then continue to serve. You can't sit at that podium knowing that your future colleagues are sitting there. ... I mean, this is so unethical and wrong."

For the ethically challenged Biden administration, perhaps it's no big deal. But Spicer calls the decision "unprecedented." Having waited more than two years before becoming host of "Spicer & Co." on Newsmax, Spicer knows what it's like to go from the White House briefing room to the newsroom.

He joins "The Daily Signal Podcast" to talk about his approach to covering the news, Newsmax's growth, and more. Listen to the full interview or read an abridged version at DailySignal.com.

The Daily Signal - BONUS: SCOTUS 101 on the Dobbs Leak

Today on "The Daily Signal Podcast," we are featuring the latest episode of "SCOTUS 101" a sister podcast on the Heritage Podcast Network. Subscribe to SCOTUS 101: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/scotus-101/id1282064006

This week saw the biggest leak in Supreme Court history: a leaked opinion. And not just any opinion, but an early draft of a purported majority decision in the Dobbs case, which would, if issued, overrule Roe v. Wade and return abortion policy to the people of each state. Zack and GianCarlo chat about the leak, what it means for the Court, and what ought to happen to the leaker. They also discuss all the other news that was drowned out by the leak including the memorial service for Justice John Paul Stevens and a major First Amendment opinion issued this week. GianCarlo then interviews Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch, and they talk about her career and her legal strategy in Dobbs. Finally, Zack quizzes GianCarlo about Justice Stevens' life and career.

Here's a link to Zack and John Malcolm's article about whether the leaker can be criminally prosecuted.

The Daily Signal - How the Americans Became a Constitutional People

This latest podcast is a conversation with Gordon Wood, the great historian of the American Founding, on his new book, Power and Liberty, which details how Americans drafted, ratified, and incorporated written constitutions as fundamental laws into their politics and government.

On the creation of the American Constitution, Wood observes, "Instead of reforming the Articles [of Confederation], they throw them out and create an entirely new government, the federal Constitution that we have with us today, something that nobody in 1776 even imagined in their wildest dreams. I know of no one in 1776 that anticipated the kind of federal government that emerged 10 years later. Something awful had to happen in those 10 years to explain the Constitution. I find that it's harder to explain the Constitution than it is to explain the Revolution itself."

Wood also takes on the 1619 Project: "What's interesting about the Revolution is that the Revolution makes slavery a problem for the first time in Western civilization and leads to a massive assault on the slave systems of the New World. . . . The Northern states, almost immediately in 1776, mount a massive assault on slavery, which had been legal in all of these Northern states. By 1804, all the Northern states have abolished slavery, the first states in the history of the world, or at least the modern world, to abolish slavery."

The Daily Signal - Woman Who Survived 2 Abortion Attempts Shares Her Message to Pro-Choice Activists

Denisha Workizer was in her 40s when she learned her mother had tried to abort her not once, but twice.

With the Supreme Court apparently set to overturn its 1973 decision in Roe v. Wade, Workizer says, she wants pro-abortion activists to consider that we “empower women by empowering life."

"It's not empowering for a woman to kill her child,” she adds.

Today, Workizer works with The Abortion Survivors Network, an organization that helps other survivors find hope and peace in their own stories.

She joins "The Daily Signal Podcast" today to share her personal story of survival as well her message to both pro-choice and pro-life Americans.

Also on today’s show, we cover these stories:

The Daily Signal - Oberlin College Eats Just Desserts for Smearing Bakery

Back in 2016, clerks at Gibson’s Bakery in Oberlin, Ohio, stopped a group of black shoplifters from stealing from their store. What they didn’t realize was that act would set them on a six year legal battle.

The tiny, family owned bakery was accused of racial profiling for stopping the shoplifters. That accusation caused students and faculty from nearby Oberlin College to engage in a smear campaign to get them shut down.

A libel case filed by the owners of the bakery recently concluded, with the bakery owners emerging victorious. This hasn’t stopped the school from continuing to accuse the shop of being racist.

“They have been completely unapologetic. They have been very aggressive towards this bakery,” says Bill Jacobson, a Cornell Law professor and founder of Legal Insurrection. “They continue to make their false accusations of racism against the bakery, they show no remorse whatsoever.”

Jacobson and Legal Insurrection have been covering this case since the very beginning. He joins the show to give a background on the case, as well as discuss what the verdict means for other woke schools targeting small businesses.

We also cover these stories:

  • President Biden says the most “extreme political organization that’s existed in recent American history” is the “MAGA crowd.”
  • Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla. wants to stop tax breaks for companies who cover travel costs for their employees to have an abortion.
  • The computer repair shop owner who exposed Hunter Biden’s laptop has filed a defamation suit against Congressman Adam Schiff, Democrat from California, as well as CNN, the Daily Beast and Politico.

The Daily Signal - Want a Pro-Life America? Look to Family and Church, Advocate Says

If Roe v. Wade in fact is overturned, ending abortion on demand, what happens next? Is the pro-life movement ready to meet the needs of mothers and families facing unplanned pregnancies?

Roland Warren, president and CEO of the pro-life organization Care Net, says that although pregnancy centers play a role in helping women who have unplanned pregnancies, both the church and the family have a responsibility to defend life and serve these women.

The first step in creating a culture of life in America requires rebuilding marriage and family "consistent with God's design,” Warren argues.

Warren joins this episode of “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss how families and places of worship can begin creating a culture of life in their communities.

Also on today's show, we cover these stories:

  • Chief Justice John Roberts confirms the authenticity of a leaked draft opinion indicating the Supreme Court will overturn Roe v. Wade and its legalization of abortion on demand.
  • Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., announces that the Senate will vote on codifying "abortion rights."
  • Liberal activists call for packing the Supreme Court to add justices in the wake of the leaked draft.

The Daily Signal - What to Know About Leaked Supreme Court Draft Opinion That Would Overturn Roe v. Wade

History on the right to life was made Monday night in more ways than one.

Someone at the Supreme Court leaked to the press a draft version of a majority opinion in the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.

The nearly 100-page opinion, drafted by Justice Samuel Alito, says at one point that the high court's rulings in two previous cases allowing abortion on demand "must be overruled.”—Roe v. Wade (1973) and Planned Parenthood v. Casey (1992).

A leak of this magnitude, nearly two months before the anticipated release of the Supreme Court's opinion in Dobbs, is unprecedented.

Carrie Campbell Severino, president of Judicial Crisis Network, joins this special episode of “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss how and why the draft opinion was leaked, and how quickly the justices may decide to release their final opinion.

The Daily Signal - Why Homeland Security Chief Faces Impeachment for Biden’s Border Crisis

The crisis at the southern border is likely to get worse because of the Biden administration's mishandling, or abandonment, of enforcement tools to stop illegal immigration.

Last week, The Daily Signal was on the ground in South Texas interviewing border security experts.

One is Mike Salinas, a 34-year veteran of the Border Patrol who retired in 2021. Salinas talks about the escalating border crisis in Texas, how the situation is worse under Joe Biden than

Barack Obama, and how social media companies help cartels recruit smugglers of drugs and people.

Also joining today's episode of "The Daily Signal Podcast" is Mark Krikorian, executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies, which supports enforcement of immigration laws and opposes amnesty. Krikorian's organization organized the border tour, in which The Daily Signal participated.

Krikorian, author of the books "The New Case against Immigration, Both Legal and Illegal" and "How Obama is Transforming America Through Immigration," talks about how Biden and his homeland security secretary, Alejandro Mayorkas, have failed to address the border crisis.

Also on today's show, we cover these stories:

  • Can a Christian flag be flown outside Boston City hall? Yes, the Supreme Court rules unanimously.
  • Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., has plans for President Biden’s new disinformation board.
  • Amazon announces that it will reimburse employees up to $4,000 in travel costs for medical treatments, including abortions.

The Daily Signal - A Preview of What Happens at State Level If Roe v. Wade Falls

What will happen at the state level if the Supreme Court overturns its 1973 ruling in Roe v. Wade? Can we expect more lawsuits like those we've seen in Kentucky and other states that recently passed pro-life legislation?

Americans are waiting for the Supreme Court to announce its ruling in the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which could overturn Roe and send the issue of abortion back to the states to regulate.

In anticipation of a change in federal abortion law, pro-life leaders are seeing a “ton of activity at the states,” says Sarah Parshall Perry, a senior legal fellow at The Heritage Foundation. (The Daily Signal is Heritage's multimedia news organization.)

Perry joins this episode of “The Daily Signal Podcast” to explain what likely will happen in conservative and liberal states across the country if the high court strikes down Roe.

Also on today's show, we cover these stories:

  • President Joe Biden calls on Congress to pass supplemental funding to the tune of $33 billion to continue aide to Ukraine.
  • Student loan debt relief is back on the table for the Biden administration.
