The Daily Signal - Churches May Be Closed, but This Pastor Says We Have Reason to Hope

The Rev. Samuel Rodriguez says he came face to face with the fear and anxiety created by COVID-19 when his own daughter contracted the virus over the summer after giving birth to a beautiful baby girl. The pastor's daughter, 29, ended up in an intensive care unit fighting for her life.

The challenging lessons learned by Rodriguez, founder and president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, are part of his new book “From Survive to Thrive: Live a Holy, Healed, Healthy, Happy, Humble, Hungry, and Honoring Life.”

Rodriguez, who pastors a church in California, joins the show to explain that all of us are “failing, surviving, or thriving.” He says he hopes his book will serve as a practical guide for anyone who desires to thrive in this season, even as government lockdowns close church buildings and the virus continues to affect our lives.

Also on today’s show, we read your letters to the editor and share a good news story about a generous young man who is using his dog treat business to fight canine cancer. (You may purchase Lily’s Barkery treats here.)

The Daily Signal - Religious Liberty on Trial in Supreme Court’s Foster Care Case

Foster parents offer hope and critical support to children facing tremendous challenges. But the city of Philadelphia has threatened that hope by telling longtime foster parents that they can't work with Catholic Social Services because of the religious organization's belief in marriage as the union of one man and one woman.

The case Fulton v. City of Philadelphia went before the Supreme Court last week. Heritage Foundation scholar Ryan T. Anderson recently hosted a panel discussion breaking down the case and why it is a critical battle for thousands of foster children and religious liberty in America.

Today, we share that discussion with you on “The Daily Signal Podcast.” We also cover these stories:

The Daily Signal - Here’s the Latest on Election Litigation

Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito ordered county election boards in Pennsylvania to comply with guidance requiring them to keep ballots received after 8 p.m. Election Day "in a safe, secure, and sealed container separate from other voted ballots,” as Newsweek and other outlets reported Friday. How could Alito's directive affect returns for the presidential election?

Additionally, The Associated Press reported that 24 Wisconsin counties had completed canvassing of election results as of Monday morning, but that "all 72 must be in before President Donald Trump could call for a recount.” How long will that take, and will other states besides Georgia recount?

Jason Snead, executive director of the Honest Elections Project, joins the podcast to discuss.

We also cover these stories:

  • The Supreme Court hears arguments about ending Obamacare, but some conservative justices apparently don't see a need for the health care law to be repealed in its entirety.

The Daily Signal - Hans von Spakovsky Explains Election Litigation in 5 States

Even though former vice President Joe Biden has claimed victory in the presidential election, the Trump campaign has filed lawsuits contesting the results with current litigation in Pennsylvania, Nevada, Michigan, Georgia, and Arizona.

In Pennsylvania alone, there are at least 21,000 dead people on the voter rolls. Is there a possibility that some of these ballots that went to dead people were used fraudulently? We’ve also heard a lot of people talk about how we largely know the results of all the House and Senate races but still don’t have all the ballots counted for the presidential race. Why is this the case?  Hans von Spakovsky, manager of The Heritage Foundation’s Election Law Reform Initiative and and a senior legal fellow at the think tank's Meese Center for Legal and Judicial Studies joins The Daily Signal Podcast to discuss.

We also cover these stories:

  • Former Vice President Joe Biden is saying that the 2020 race for the White House is finished and that people need to be wearing masks.
  • President Trump fired defense secretary Mark Esper.
  • Pharmaceutical company Pfizer announced that its coronavirus vaccine is 90% effective.
