The Daily Signal - Religious Liberty on Trial in Supreme Court’s Foster Care Case

Foster parents offer hope and critical support to children facing tremendous challenges. But the city of Philadelphia has threatened that hope by telling longtime foster parents that they can't work with Catholic Social Services because of the religious organization's belief in marriage as the union of one man and one woman.

The case Fulton v. City of Philadelphia went before the Supreme Court last week. Heritage Foundation scholar Ryan T. Anderson recently hosted a panel discussion breaking down the case and why it is a critical battle for thousands of foster children and religious liberty in America.

Today, we share that discussion with you on “The Daily Signal Podcast.” We also cover these stories:

  • Amid a GOP push to investigate voter fraud claims, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., attacks Republican leaders for “poisoning the well of our democracy.”
  • Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., says he will get involved if the Trump administration doesn't allow Joe Biden to begin receiving intelligence briefings that address situations such as national security threats.
  • The Boston-based 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rules that Harvard University may continue to use race as a consideration in its admissions process.

Jessica Anderson, executive director of Heritage Action for America, the grassroots partner organization of The Heritage Foundation, joins the show to discuss the 13 newly elected Republican female representatives and how their leadership will affect America. Anderson also breaks down what might happen next in the presidential election as claims of voter fraud and litigation both continue.

The Daily Signal - Here’s the Latest on Election Litigation

Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito ordered county election boards in Pennsylvania to comply with guidance requiring them to keep ballots received after 8 p.m. Election Day "in a safe, secure, and sealed container separate from other voted ballots,” as Newsweek and other outlets reported Friday. How could Alito's directive affect returns for the presidential election?

Additionally, The Associated Press reported that 24 Wisconsin counties had completed canvassing of election results as of Monday morning, but that "all 72 must be in before President Donald Trump could call for a recount.” How long will that take, and will other states besides Georgia recount?

Jason Snead, executive director of the Honest Elections Project, joins the podcast to discuss.

We also cover these stories:

  • The Supreme Court hears arguments about ending Obamacare, but some conservative justices apparently don't see a need for the health care law to be repealed in its entirety.
  • Attorney General William Barr announces that prosecutors at the Justice Department can look into evidence of voting irregularities.
  • Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., pledges that he will not support packing the Supreme Court with more justices or ending the Senate filibuster.

The Daily Signal - Hans von Spakovsky Explains Election Litigation in 5 States

Even though former vice President Joe Biden has claimed victory in the presidential election, the Trump campaign has filed lawsuits contesting the results with current litigation in Pennsylvania, Nevada, Michigan, Georgia, and Arizona.

In Pennsylvania alone, there are at least 21,000 dead people on the voter rolls. Is there a possibility that some of these ballots that went to dead people were used fraudulently? We’ve also heard a lot of people talk about how we largely know the results of all the House and Senate races but still don’t have all the ballots counted for the presidential race. Why is this the case?  Hans von Spakovsky, manager of The Heritage Foundation’s Election Law Reform Initiative and and a senior legal fellow at the think tank's Meese Center for Legal and Judicial Studies joins The Daily Signal Podcast to discuss.

We also cover these stories:

  • Former Vice President Joe Biden is saying that the 2020 race for the White House is finished and that people need to be wearing masks.
  • President Trump fired defense secretary Mark Esper.
  • Pharmaceutical company Pfizer announced that its coronavirus vaccine is 90% effective.

The Daily Signal - What You Need To Know About Arizona’s Election Day ‘SharpieGate’

Laurie Aguilera says her polling place gave her a Sharpie marker to fill out her ballot on Election Day in Maricopa County, Arizona, despite what her lawyers call state guidelines directing that "felt-tip writing utensils not be used."

Ink ended up bleeding through Aguilera's ballot, and election officials would not accept it. The Public Interest Legal Foundation filed a lawsuit on her behalf, “requesting restoration of ballots for voters who were told to fill out their ballots using Sharpie markers but subsequently had those ballots canceled.”

Many voters are concerned about election fraud and how ballots are being counted in the wake of the close presidential election between Donald Trump and Joe Biden. Should voters be concerned about election results being illegitimate, or significant fraud occurring?

Logan Churchwell, spokesman for the Public Interest Legal Foundation, joins the podcast to discuss.

The Daily Signal - Why More Hispanics Voted for Trump in 2020

President Donald Trump did historically well in terms of the Hispanic vote.  In both Texas and Florida, the Republican nominee did well among Hispanics. Per NBC News, “55 percent of Florida’s Cuban-American vote went to Trump, according to NBC News exit polls, while 30 percent of Puerto Ricans and 48 percent of 'other Latinos' backed Trump.” Nationally, he went from 28 percent among Hispanics to 32 percent.

What happened here? Were particular issues at stake in the 2020 election affected the Hispanic community’s votes? What about Trump's immigration policies? And lastly, is there even a Hispanic voting bloc--or should we look at these voters in a different way?

Mike Gonzalez, a senior fellow in the Douglas and Sarah Allison Center for Foreign Policy at The Heritage Foundation, joins The Daily Signal Podcast to discuss all this and more.

The Daily Signal - Can Young Adults Learn to Love the Free Market?

“We all know from the research, from the history, that it is free markets that do what we all want and provide what we all want to have as a country,” says Chris Cargill of the Washington Policy Center. “And yet younger generations, many of whom were born after the fall of the Berlin Wall, are looking more longingly toward this socialism idea.”

Now the Washington Policy Center is trying to change how young adults perceive socialism and free markets with the “Free Market Destroy” campaign. The free market, Cargill explains, “destroys all the things that we hate, that especially younger generations hate, like climate change, high rents, hunger, disease, boredom, all the things that we as a society despise and want to improve upon.”

We also cover these stories:

·  Close to 100 million Americans cast their votes before Election Day.

·  Businesses around the country are boarding-up their windows in anticipation of post-election violence.

·  The US Marshals Service found 27 missing children in Virginia.
