For decades, Americans were warned about the severe consequences trade deficits would bring if left unchecked. However, a booming economy, low debt and rising incomes kept fears at bay.

“ We are being crushed by budget deficits, national deficits, and trade deficits. … Trade deficits matter. We gotta get them down because we have no room to maneuver, given our budget and our national debt.

“Look at the budget—just to go back to that year—25 years ago, we were running—I can't believe it—a $236 billion surplus. This was the Grand [Newt] Gingrich, speaker of the House, Bill Clinton budget that was still in effect. We were adding to our national wealth by 2.4% plus of GDP. Now we're running a $1.8 to $2 trillion annual deficit.”

By May 7, all U.S. citizens are supposed to have their federally required “Real ID” so that they can travel by air or enter a federal building. But what about using them to register to vote to ensure they are legally present in the country and eligible to vote in our elections?

The SAVE Act, introduced by Republican Texas Rep. (and University of Virginia alumnus) Chip Roy, recently passed the U.S. House of Representatives and now is awaiting action in the Senate. The SAVE Act, among other things, would require proof of citizenship for voter registration in federal elections and strengthen verification processes to ensure voter rolls only contained eligible citizen voters.

The Daily Signal sat down with former Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security, former Virginia Attorney General, and current National Chairman of the Election Transparency Initiative Ken Cuccinelli to talk about the bill’s likelihood of making it to President Donald Trump’s desk.

Does Harvard really want the Trump administration to air their dirty laundry?

 

On Monday, Harvard University filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration over its withholding of $2 billion in federal grants, saying the action was “unlawful.”

 

The Trump administration hasn’t budged on its list of demands, which include holding antisemitic student and facility accountable to abolishing DEI offices/practices.

 

However, does Harvard really want all the information about their endowments, lack of intellectual diversity and due process, separate racial graduations, safe spaces and use of student loans made public?

 

I doubt so, argues Victor Davis Hanson on today’s edition of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words:”

 

“If I were the presidents of these major universities, I would do this: I would make a deal with the Trump administration. And I would welcome it because then I would tell my radical students, "You can't wear a mask. I'd like you to, but the federal government won't let me." Or, "We can't have racially segregated dorms anymore, theme houses. I'd like to, but it's against the law." And that would be their way out. Is that going to happen?

“But my point is this the Wall Street Journal headline was that he attacks Trump, accuses him of cutting Social Security. And the article said that [Biden] looked ‘rested.’

 

“That was just a complete distortion. And when you start looking every single day, as I'm doing, if it's tariffs, it's a disaster. If it's DOGE, it's a disaster. If it's Ukraine, Trump is doing something wrong, he's favored Putin too much. It's a disaster.

Young people have rejected the "trust the science" mentality of older generations, paving the way for acceptance of the concept of "Make America Healthy Again," according to a holistic doctor in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

"I grew up in an era of thinking if it was that bad for us, it really shouldn't be put in our foods, and I'm sure the government wouldn't allow that," Dr. Tammy Born Huizenga, who owns and operates a preventive health care clinic, told The Daily Signal in an interview. "And it turns out they were allowing it. And your generation is like, 'I'm not sure I'm gonna trust the government in making all these decisions for me.'"

Nearly 60% of Americans have heard about Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s "Make American Healthy Again" agenda, and the majority have a favorable view of the movement, which involves promoting healthier ingredients in foods, healthier school lunches, reducing the use of food dyes and corn syrup, and eliminating fluoride from tap water.

The COVID-19 pandemic brought the problems with American health care into focus, Huizenga said.
