Philosophers In Space - Intacto (Intact) and Superstitious Luck

The fact that nobody ever asks anybody if they're "feeling lucky" in this movie feels like a mistake worthy of a creepy evil luck hug. I really enjoyed this movie the first time I watched it, and after five years of being obsessed with non-superstitious luck, it's nice to come back and reflect on the weirdness that is superstitious luck. Enjoy!

Native America Calling - Monday, December 2, 2024 – Getting the lay of the land

If you ever buy or sell a parcel of land or build a home or business, you’ll likely need a land surveyor. They are the first professionals on the scene when people need to find and document property lines, reservation boundaries, utilities, and topography. On a bigger scale, much of the American west was originally mapped and named by explorers like Lewis and Clark and John Wesley Powell in the 1800s. It’s now up to Native American surveyors to include their unique understanding of the land going forward. We’ll hear from Native land surveyors about their work and the need to recruit more Native people to their ranks.

Good Bad Billionaire - Peter Thiel: Paypal mafioso

What do Airbnb, Facebook, Spotify, and LinkedIn all have in common? Peter Thiel. They made his fortune, but he’s since rejected Silicon Valley for being too "woke". He’s a contradictory character: a libertarian who made billions from big state surveillance; an intellectual who purports to hate politics, but who’s poured millions into political campaigns, including Donald Trump’s 2020 bid. Some call him a free-thinking genius, while others say he wants to watch Rome burn. Simon Jack and Zing Tsjeng tell the intriguing story of Peter Thiel, the man who ousted Elon Musk from their company PayPal, and who’s signed up to be cryogenically frozen. Then they decide if they think he’s good, bad, or just another billionaire.

Serious Inquiries Only - Epidemiologist Claims MAGA Is An Epidemic Caused By “Brain Flaws.” Only Problem Is, That’s Completely Unscientific and Based On Almost Nothing.

SIO466 - Dr. Gary Slutkin has been cited in Salon and other outlets as an expert epidemiologist who runs an impressive NGO that helps reduce violence. While he may be an epidemiologist, almost everything else about him and his claims seems to be... very likely bull shit. Dr. Jenessa Seymour joins us to break this down. It gets more and more bull shit as we go, and eventually we're both live debunking parts of this nonsense.
