Philosophers In Space - 0G52: Infinity Wars and Overpopulation

Lemme just get my witty banter beard on:

Hey kids, do you like violence? Want to see Murtle the turtle stick needles in Dr. Strange's eyelids?

Sorry, not current enough pop culture reference? How bout this?

What's big, purple, has a jewelry fetish, and makes some really sound points about overpopulation? That's right! A Kardashian Oompa loompa.

Too many references mashed together? Okay, how bout this:

::hour long battle scene, I timed it::

Okay okay, I'm not gonna give it all away for free, cause we're going all out with TWO pieces of Infinity Wars content. For those who want more philosophy and less snark, we have this episode where spend 90% of the time on the tragedy of the commons and how it applies to overpopulation. THEN, we're going to soon have NASA 3 come out, where we spend almost as long as one whole battle scene arguing about how awesome this movie is. If you were fans of the battle of Hamilton, you'll want in on this.

The Goods from the Woods - Episode #241 – “Wrestling Theme Gauntlet” with Carter Glascock

In this episode, the Goods from the Woods Boys welcome comedian Carter Glascock back to the show to run the WRESTLING ENTRANCE THEME GAUNTLET! The history of being accompanied to the ring by music goes back all the way to the days of the original "Nature Boy", Buddy Rogers! Since then, the quality of entrance music tends to be spotty AT BEST. Sometimes they're banal, sometimes they're hilarious, sometimes they're A BUNCH OF GODDAMN DENTAL DRILLS! This ep is one of the absolute funniest ones we've ever done! Come see Rivers on the road. Details at @RiversLangley on Twitter and follow Carter @Doctor_Clark on Instagram! Ologies with Alie Ward - Scorpiology (SCORPIONS) with Lauren Esposito

Scorpions: the victims of undue shade. If you've ever wanted to impress a date with weird facts THIS IS THE EPISODE FOR YOU. A handful of people on planet Earth have a PhD in scorpions and Dr. Lauren Esposito is one of them. She spills the beans on how venom works, what's up with the blacklight glow effect, how dangerous they *really* are, what all the movies get wrong, the best names for scorpions, where she's traveled to look under rocks, where a scorpion's butt is, if scorpions dance or make out (SPOILER: YES), what good mothers they are, how big they used to be millions of years ago and how -- technically speaking -- they are not poisonous. Also: how much does a gallon of venom cost? Oh, and why she started the visibility campaign 500 Queer Scientists. Get this one in your ears right away.

Stuff They Don't Want You To Know - Who’s Infiltrating Protests?

Love them or hate them, protests are as American as apple pie. Each year thousands of people exercise their right to free speech and assembly, often to publicly denounce a policy, project or phenomenon. This is entirely legal, so long as the protestors have the right permits and things don't turn violent. However, many veteran protestors will tell you there's more going on behind the scenes. Most protestors, they argue, don't want things to devolve into physical conflict. However, those people wearing facemasks, throwing bricks and antagonizing the police aren't part of the actual gathering... instead, they're agents of something much more sinister. Tune in to learn more about how protests get infiltrated and compromised.

It's time for a listener voicemail episode! We've got some really good topics/questions/critiques, so much so that I had to split this into a couple episodes. Topics include changing minds on things like anti-vax and white fragility, and how to be an atheist critical of Islam white not contributing to problematic anti-Muslim bigotry, and voting rights! Here's a good article on what changes anti-vaxxers' minds.
