Stuff They Don't Want You To Know - Do angels have a language?

Belief in supernatural, divine beings like angels dates back into antiquity and occurs throughout numerous religions. Even in the modern day, numerous Americans are convinced that angels (or something like them) exist and intervene in human affairs. So, outside of anecdotes and personal opinion, is there any proof these creatures exist? To one enormously influential scientist, magician and philosopher, Angels left one indisputable proof of their existence: A secret language, predating humanity -- one with the power to reveal the secrets of the universe. Listen in to learn more about Enochian language and John Dee.

You're Wrong About - Acid Rain

Mike tells Sarah how an environmental problem became a national rallying cry, a sticky diplomatic issue and, eventually, a conspiracy theory. Digressions include “Alien,” Field & Stream and NRA public service announcements. Both hosts are recovering from colds and one spends the episode under a blanket.

Serious Inquiries Only - SIO180: Liam Neeson and White Fragility

After a brief wade into the (I think mistaken) uproar over tax refunds not being as high as last year, I go on to tackle the story of an old white actor telling about the time he was George Zimmerman and then expecting it to be totally cool. And furthermore, how on Earth could ANYONE not accept his semi-pology? We must be living in the Salem Witch Trials era! In all seriousness though, I want to explore the issue and where I think people are going right, wrong, and possibly missing good points. I reference the excellent book White Fragility by Robin DeAngelo, which I highly recommend. Here is the Vox article I mention. Here's Trevor Noah's take. Liam Neeson's second interview.

Stuff They Don't Want You To Know - Cell Phones, 5G & Cancer

Smart phones have fundamentally changed the world -- at times, it's difficult to imagine life without one of these handy computers. There's a world of people you can call, a universe of information at your fingertips and millions of specialized programs to make everyday life that much easier. In fact, it sounds too good to be true... and, according to some critics, that might just be the case. So how do we separate the fact from fiction when it comes to smart phones and cancer?

Philosophers In Space - OG44: Bandersnatch and the Ethics of Mental Illness Representation, Part 2

Like Netflix, we're going to soak this thing for all its worth. How many hours of your life can we steal making you click through episodes trying to find easter eggs?! Really though, for all the innovations in this episode, it feel painfully underdeveloped in the arguably unethical way it makes use of tropes that are harmful to people with mental illness, and it felt like that deserved a main segment discussion. So we talk about those ethical problems in boring old timey linear fashion, as well as related ethical issues in how to balance representation challenges with the desire to make compelling art. Basically, ethicists see the world the same way as the SDNY; it's all our jurisdiction.

Ologies with Alie Ward - Matrimoniology (MARRIAGE) with Ben Karney

Love! Romance! Intimate relationships! Marriage! Divorce! Remarriage! Clowns! This episode has it all. The wonderfully warm Dr. Benjamin Karney of the UCLA Marriage lab has been studying romance and intimate relationships for 20 years and sits down to chat about being single and the mechanisms behind finding a partner, what behaviors foster intimacy, why some couples stay together vs. splitting up, some bananas proposals, wedding budgets, how parenting affects marriage, historical problems with matrimony and his own experiences with marriage and divorce. These behaviors are also so applicable to friendships, work partnerships and as it turns out...professional clowns.

The Goods from the Woods - Episode #233 – “Judge Judy & Executioner” with Stephen Agyei

In this episode, the Goods from the Woods Boys are joined once again by special guest host Sam Harter in welcoming to the show Denver, Colorado's favorite son, comedian Stephen Agyei! What begins as a casual conversation about Stephen's past life as a social worker turns quickly to a full on discussion of the drudgery and backwater of show business that is DAYTIME TELEVISION; from the judges (Judy, Wapner, Mathis, Mills Lane, et. al.), to the trash TV hosts, to the ups and downs of Nick Jr. We also get into some great recent comedy stories from the road. Stephen is one of our favorite comedians and we just know you're gonna dig this episode!
